Britain's Jenson Button won the season- opening Australian Grand Prix at the Albert Park racetrack in Melbourne, Australia on sunday, March 29.
Button in a Brawn GP lead throughout from start to finish, winning a dramatic opening race to the 2009 Formula One season. Brawn teammate Rubens Barrichello was second ahead of Toyota's Jarno Trulli, who finished third.
Defending Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton drove an astonishing race to finish fourth despite starting in last place. He was elevated to third by a post-race stewards' decision that penalized Toyota's Jarno Trulli for overtaking under safety-car conditions. The collision between Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel and BMW's Robert Kubica who were running second and third, put both cars out of the race.
