Misano returned to the World MotoGP Championship in 2007 after a 20-year absence. There had been a couple of San Marino GPs in the interim but they were held at Mugello. The owners had to extensively modify the circuit in order to host a world championship event again and in 2006 the direction was changed to clockwise, the length increased to 4.180km and facilities improved.
